Welcome to my home page!  As your school counselor at Welch Elementary School at the Dover Air Force Base, my goal is to best serve and respond to our students and their families needs. The Comprehensive School Counseling program is designed to meet the unique needs of the Dover Air Force Base and surrounding communities. Some of my unique services are as follows:

Yellow Ribbon Temporary Deployment Support Groups  Students who have a  parent or loved one who is TDY (temporarily deployed) are eligible to attend.   Support groups are designed to provide an opportunity for children to meet together in a caring environment to talk about their experiences while their loved one is away.  The primary outcome is children learn how they can best cope with the status of the parent and achieve at school while their loved one is away serving our country.  Children are encouraged to demonstrate ways they can help the parent who is still at home, while achieving at school to help make their parents proud.  New friendship connections are formed through the discussion of shared experiences.

United Achievers of Today and Tomorrow  Leadership Group designed to assist fifth graders with goal setting, identification of strengths, interests and talents, supporting a school based service project, and research on leadership attributes.

Friendship Workshop  Designed to help 2nd and/or 3rd grade students learn about their unique strengths and how to apply social/behavioral skills in daily interactions with peers and adults.  Role play practice; study guides; fun, interactive video activities and counselor facilitated lessons help students to better reach their potential as active and attentive learners in the classroom setting.  Students with special needs, such as autism or ADD, are able to benefit by practicing their social skills in a heterogeneous small group setting.

Individual Counseling Support for students in the midst of emotional crisis and referral support to outside therapy when situations require more intensive services.  Supportive counseling and brief counseling are also available and provided as needed.  The primary goal of school counseling is to help the student to be ready and able to achieve in the classroom, and support the social/emotional well being of the child.

Life Skills classes are taught to students in grades four and five.  The primary purpose of the Life Skills Program is to teach character education, including resiliency skills to help students navigate the challenges faced in the 21st century.  Topics include:  Goal Setting, Motor Vehicle Safety, Drug and Alcohol Awareness Prevention,  Internet Safety, Compassion, Respect and Bully Prevention, Problem Solving and Critical Thinking Skills, and Career Awareness.  A Career Fair is coordinated and presented each spring to all of fifth grade.

Please feel free to contact me at 674-9080, ext. 202 or e-mail me at heidi.wuller@cr.k12.de.us during the school year Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00AM and 3:30PM if you have any questions or would like to schedule a visit to discuss how I may best serve your student.
I'll be happy to hear from you!  Ms. Wuller, School Counselor
